Our volunteers ROCK!

Tic-Tac-Toe Rock Craft at San Diego Rescue Mission

Share the Dough put together a craft night for the residents of the San Diego Rescue Mission. Our volunteers got creative with making Tic-Tac-Toe canvas bags and unique Xs and Os by painting rocks.

The first hour was spent in the dining hall. Residents were invited to stop by and make a craft during dinner. There were many children that eagerly came running over to paint. A few children took their time to make creative rocks such as sharks and whales for their playing pieces. While a few children quickly painted Xs and Os and were ready to start playing the game! There were some adults that joined in the fun as well. Their creative and artistic sides were incredible to see all while the joy they were having was equally as beautiful as their art!

Our volunteer’s second hour was spent outside in the emergency shelter. They set the craft up again and invited those around to join in the fun. Women filled the table. One mother asked if she could make two sets, one for each of her children. The conversations at the table with the women were special. The women shared personal stories and our volunteers listened and were there for them with encouraging words and support!

A representative of the rescue mission said, ”I was really touched by how you all connected with the women and children. I got wonderful feedback from the programs directors - the women loved the craft and conversations, as did the kiddos. Anytime you all want to come back, we’ll make it happen. Again, thank you for your generosity and kindness.”

Our volunteers were all touched by the experience and Share the Dough is making plans to return for more fun very soon! The San Diego Rescue Mission recently received a Change for Children financial grant as well.
