ERICA’S SUCCESS STORY
Erica's childhood lacked safety and security. Her biological dad was absent, her stepdad was a gang member in and out of jail, and her mom couldn’t provide the love she needed.
Erica's desire to belong led to disappointing relationships. After her first son's father left, she worked hard as a single mom. She later dated a long-time friend, hoping for stability, but he was abusive and unfaithful, leaving Erica and her three sons facing homelessness.
Living in a motel with her kids, Erica heard about the Rescue Mission. “Coming here meant surrendering the life I was used to—running away. Being here allowed me to overcome those things,” she shares. Here, Erica found the stability, safety, and support she needed to heal. More importantly, her three sons received a quality education and the help they needed to thrive. She believes your generosity is “sowing seeds into good ground,” adding, “This isn’t just a place to live or find food to eat. It saves somebody’s soul. It helps them heal from their brokenness and become whole, so they too can become a sower and give back.”
Rachel, thank you for your support year after year, which brings hope and lasting solutions to those experiencing homelessness through our programs and campuses.
